Weekly Reflection Post #6 – Accessibility
This week in class we listened to an in-depth talk on the Centre for accessible learning (CAL). This talk had Charlie Watson, Sydney LaMarsh, and Szymon Stecewicz talk about the program.
As I mentioned in my last reflection post, I am registered with CAL myself. Yet, there is always useful to look it over for both learning and review. So, I found the talk quite in-depth and clear. Separating things such as learning disabilities and barriers. As well as going over the need to accommodate.

As seen in the chart above and during the chart. Not all learning disabilities and barriers are visual. For example, I have a physical condition but it is not visual. Said condition I have accommodations for. Looking at the chart you will see more of these needs which may not be visual.
I think this is important to take into account because we do not know what everyone is going through, both physically and mentally. In countless clips on YouTube, you can see people arguing over handicapped parking spots due to an invisible disability. This short is a skit of one such argument.
So to me, it is important that everyone familiarizes themselves with that not all disabilities & barriers are visible. So, I am thankful that CAL is a part of UVIC and how advanced their system is. It has been a huge help to my current studies at UVIC.
