Inquiry Post #1 – Getting Started with Unity Tutorials

As of today (March 2nd) my process working through Unity tutorials has been a bit stagnant. Due to last week being reading break I spent my time catching up with friends, working on personal projects, and taking a much needed breather.

Although my past week wasn’t as productive as I would’ve liked. I still got some work done on my inquiry project. Which is learning Unity as I want to go into game development. Before starting this project I had already followed some youtube guides for games I specifically want to make. But I’m focusing my inquiry project on working through the free Unity tutorials they give to every user.

The first tutorial I decided to tackle was the 3D roll-a-ball game. Which is a game you get to roll a ball on a surface with obstacles and enemies trying to hit you. Below is a video of my current process in making the game.

As you can see the ball moves through the use of the WASD keys and even takes some time to slow down. The camera also follows the ball. Unfortunately, the walls are too small that if you hit them full speed the ball rolls over. This will be a bug I plan on fixing by increasing the wall size.

This upcoming week I wish to finish this roll-a-ball game even with my own unique twist to it so I can share it in my next inquiry blog post. I also plan to begin the next tutorial which is making a 2D adventure game. I hope to complete these goals by next week, thank you.
